USS Saladin Class Destroyer-Escort

With the success of the Shiratsuyu class of Scout Destroyer, the Federation contracted for a new fleet of Destroyer-Escorts and Scouts to replace the ailing stock of existing Shiratsuyu class ships. The increasingly hostile encounters with the Klingons inside of the frontier of UFP space also caused the Federation to quickly begin replacing their Shiratsuyu class ships since they were no match for the D3, let along D4 and D5 type Klingon warships.
